Section 57 IPC — Fractions of terms of punishment
Replaced from 1 July 2024 by BNS 6 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Offences committed on or before 30 June 2024 are still charged under the IPC.
The law now: BNS 6 — Fractions of terms of punishment
In calculating fractions of terms of punishment, imprisonment for life shall be reckoned as equivalent to imprisonment for twenty years unless otherwise provided.
