Delhi High Court cause list

The cause list is the court’s running order for the day — which matters each bench will take up, and in what order. Where Delhi High Court publishes it, how to read one entry, and how to find your matter in it.

Where it is published

Delhi High Court puts its cause lists on its own website, delhihighcourt.nic.in, under Cause List → PDF Cause List. Each list is one PDF; inside it, matters are grouped court by court and bench by bench. District courts in Delhi publish theirs through the eCourts services portal. LawCentral does not host or copy the list — always open the court’s own copy before you leave for court.

Reading one entry

Every entry sits under a bench. Read it left to right: where, before whom, in what order, which case.

Sample — not a real listingPlaceholders only; each court lays its list out its own way

Court no. 12 · Division Bench · Hon’ble [Judge’s name]

27.  W.P.(C) 0000/2026  [Petitioner] v. [Respondent]

Advocates: [Petitioner’s advocate] / [Respondent’s advocate]

Court no.
The room. Benches sit in numbered courts; the number can change day to day.
Bench
The bench header — a single judge or a division bench, named as “Hon’ble …”. Every entry below it is heard by them.
27.
The item number: your place in that bench’s list for the day. It tells you roughly when the bench reaches you, not a fixed time.
W.P.(C) 0000/2026
Case type, number and year — the number you file under and search by.
Advocates
The advocates shown for each side, as recorded by the registry. This is the name to search for when you track all your matters at once.

Kinds of list

For a given date the court publishes several lists: the Advance Cause List, the Cause List of Sitting of Benches, numbered Supplementary Cause Lists (1, 2, 3…) that add matters later, and separate lists such as Regular Matters, Final Matters (Original Side), Old Targeted Matters, Pronouncement of Judgement, and a Deletion Note. Check every list for your date, not only the first one you open. Video-conference links, where given, are printed inside each bench’s section.

Finding your matter

  1. 1

Open the list for your date and bench

Pick the date; open the PDF for the bench your matter is before. Check supplementary lists too.

  2. 2

Search for your name or case number

Ctrl / ⌘ F in the list. Search the advocate name exactly as it appears in the court’s records, then the case number.

  3. 3

Note the court and item number

Both can change from the last date. Write them down before you leave.

  4. 4

Watch the item number on the day

The bench moves through the list; adjournments and passovers shift it. The court’s display board (delhihighcourt.nic.in/app/display-board) shows the live item, though the court notes it can lag — confirm in court.

Questions advocates ask

When is the Delhi High Court cause list published?

Ahead of the hearing date, with numbered supplementary lists that can be added up to the hearing day. The court does not publish fixed upload times, so check delhihighcourt.nic.in again the evening before and on the morning of the hearing.

Can I find my matters by advocate name?

Yes. Search the PDF for the advocate’s name as it appears in the Advocate Name column. For Delhi district courts, the eCourts Case Status page can search by advocate name or Bar Registration number; its cause-list page goes by court and date only.

What does the item number tell me?

Your position in that bench’s list for the day. It is a running order, not an appointment time — a matter can be called earlier or passed over.
