Where it is published
Punjab and Haryana High Court publishes its cause lists on its own website, highcourtchd.gov.in. Search the daily cause list in PDF by date and list type — the type menu runs from Urgent and Ordinary to Regular and Commercial (Urgent). Judge-wise lists and up-to-date complete Single Bench and Division Bench regular lists are on the same page. LawCentral does not host or copy the list — always open the court’s own copy before you leave for court.
Reading one entry
Every entry sits under a bench. Read it left to right: where, before whom, in what order, which case.
Court no. 12 · Division Bench · Hon’ble [Judge’s name]
27. [Case type] 0000/2026 [Petitioner] v. [Respondent]
Advocates: [Petitioner’s advocate] / [Respondent’s advocate]
- Court no.
- The room. Benches sit in numbered courts; the number can change day to day.
- Bench
- The bench header — a single judge or a division bench, named as “Hon’ble …”. Every entry below it is heard by them.
- 27.
- The item number: your place in that bench’s list for the day. It tells you roughly when the bench reaches you, not a fixed time.
- [Case type] 0000/2026
- Case type, number and year — the number you file under and search by.
- Advocates
- The advocates shown for each side, as recorded by the registry. This is the name to search for when you track all your matters at once.
Kinds of list
The cause-list page carries: Daily Cause List (by list type), Judge Wise Cause List, Up-to-date Complete Division Bench Regular List, Up-to-date Complete Single Bench Regular List, Date fixed in Fresh Ordinary cases. Check every list published for your date, not only the first one you open — a later list can add matters.
Finding your matter
- 1
Open the list for your date and bench
Open the court’s cause-list page and the list for your date. Check every list for that date, supplementary ones included.
- 2
Search for your name or case number
Ctrl / ⌘ F in the list. Search the advocate name exactly as it appears in the court’s records, then the case number.
- 3
Note the court and item number
Both can change from the last date. Write them down before you leave.
- 4
Watch the item number on the day
The bench moves through the list; adjournments and passovers shift it. When checked, a court notice said the physical display boards were out of service and pointed advocates to the Live Display Board on the website. It can lag — confirm in court.
