Best Legal Software for Advocates in India (2026): What Each Tool Is Actually For
Most “best app” lists rank everything against everything. An advocate needs three jobs done — track the case, find the law, write the draft. Here is which tool does which, and what it costs.

Ask ten advocates which app they use and you will hear ten answers, because they are answering different questions. One means the diary that tells them tomorrow's matters. Another means the database they search before a hearing. A third means whatever drafts their bail application fastest.
So this guide does not rank one winner. It sorts the tools by the job an advocate actually needs done, says what each one costs on its own website, and says plainly who should not buy it — including us.
Disclosure: LawCentral publishes this page and LawCentral is one of the tools below. Every price was read off the vendor's own page on 16 October 2026; the Sources section links an archived copy of each.
The three jobs
| Job | What it means day to day | Tools built for it |
|---|---|---|
| Track the case | Next date, orders, the cause list, reminders to clients | eCourts Services app, CaseBench, MyKase, Claw, LawCentral |
| Find the law | Judgments, bare acts, which ruling binds | Indian Kanoon, Manupatra, SCC Online, Claw, LawCentral |
| Write the draft | Petitions, bail, writs, replies, notices | Word templates, general AI chatbots, LawCentral |
Most practices need all three. The real choice is whether you buy one product per job or one product that does several.

Job 1: Tracking your cases
eCourts Services — the official source
The government's eCourts Services app and portal is where case status and district-court cause lists actually come from. It is free, and every other tracker on this list ultimately reads the same court records.
Good for: checking a single case by CNR, any day, at no cost. Not for you if: you have more than a handful of matters. It does not keep your list for you, remind your client, or tell you the night before that a matter is listed — you go and look each time.
CaseBench
CaseBench describes itself as case management software for advocates and law firms. On its home page it says it fetches next hearing dates and case status from eCourts, DRT, NCLT, consumer commissions, High Courts and RERA, sends the day's cause list on WhatsApp and email as PDF and Excel, and sends clients WhatsApp, SMS and email reminders before each hearing. It offers a free trial; we could not find a published price on its home page.
Good for: a diary-first practice that lives on WhatsApp and appears before tribunals. Not for you if: you also want research and drafting in the same product.
MyKase
MyKase says it tracks cases across 10,000+ courts in India. We could not find a published price on its home page.
Good for: firms whose main need is tracking across many forums. Not for you if: you want to compare prices before speaking to sales.
Job 2: Finding the law
Indian Kanoon
Indian Kanoon's judgment search is free and is the first stop for most advocates. Its AI assistant, Prism, has a free tier with a few credits and paid Premium and Pro plans, priced on its pricing page plus 18% GST.
Good for: free case-law lookup. Not for you if: your court insists on a reported citation — a print-out from a free database is not always accepted in place of the reporter.
Manupatra
Manupatra's subscription page lists annual plans, all exclusive of GST: Starter ₹14,250, Core ₹25,700, Advanced ₹31,860, Business Plus ₹43,660 and Premium Full Access ₹55,460. It notes the Starter plan is offered only for two years and is not for academic use.
Good for: deep editorial research and established citation formats. Not for you if: you also need your cases tracked or your drafts written — it is a research database first.
SCC Online
SCC Online is the Supreme Court Cases reporter's online edition, sold through Eastern Book Company. We could not find a published price on its site on 16 October 2026.
Good for: practices that need SCC citations and its editorial notes. Not for you if: you need a price you can see before you call.
Job 3: Writing the draft
Word templates
Most drafting in Indian practice still starts from last year's petition, edited in twenty places. It costs nothing and you know the format. The risk is the field you forget to change. Our free court formats are in current BNSS numbering if you want a clean starting point.
General AI chatbots
A general chatbot can produce a first draft quickly. It does not know your case file, and you have to check every citation it gives you yourself — the Supreme Court has warned against filing citations that do not exist.
Tools that do more than one job
Claw
Claw describes itself as an all-in-one platform. On its own pages it says it tracks matters across 9,102 courts, searches judgments of the Supreme Court and 25 High Courts, and includes contract lifecycle management and a legal assistant, Legal GPT. Its pricing page lists ₹13,000 per advocate per year plus 18% GST (₹15,340), falling to ₹10,000 for 2–5 advocates, ₹8,000 for 6–10 and ₹6,500 for 11 or more, with 500 pending cases on each licence.
Good for: firms that want contracts and case search in the same subscription. Not for you if: you want to pay month to month — the published plan is annual.
We have written a separate, sourced LawCentral vs Claw comparison.
LawCentral
LawCentral is the product that publishes this page, so weigh this section accordingly. What it does, from our own plan copy:
- Tracking: add a matter from the Supreme Court, a High Court, a district court (eCourts), a consumer commission (e-Jagriti), NCLT or GSTAT; hearings, orders and listings sync from the court, and cause-list alerts arrive the night before you are listed.
- Research and drafting: ask in plain words; Nyra drafts and researches from your own record — the orders, the dates, the file — and every citation is checked against Indian Kanoon before it reaches the draft.
- Scans: a scanned filing in any of ten Indian languages is read end to end (70 pages on Starter, 300 on Practice and Pro).
- Billing: expenses, GST invoices and a UPI QR on every bill, on every plan.
Price (GST included): Starter ₹1,000 a month (50 matters), Practice ₹2,499 (unlimited matters), Pro ₹4,900, and Teams ₹3,500 per lawyer a month (minimum two). Annual billing is about 20% less. New accounts get five days of the full product with no card. See pricing.
Not for you if: you need contract lifecycle management, or the deepest editorial archive with decades of headnotes — Manupatra and SCC Online are the specialists there. And if most of your work is before DRT, RERA or other tribunals we do not list above, a tracker that covers them will serve you better today.
How to choose in five minutes
- Count your matters. Under ten, the free eCourts app may be enough. Over fifty, you need a tracker.
- Name your forums. If tribunals are most of your work, check that the tracker lists them before you pay.
- Decide where research happens. If you already pay for Manupatra or SCC Online and are happy, you only need a tracker. If you don't, a combined tool saves a subscription.
- Look at the draft, not the demo. Try a real bail application from a real file and check every citation it gives you.
- Read the price page yourself. Prices change; every one above is linked below with the date we read it.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best app for advocates in India?
It depends on the job. For checking one case, the free eCourts Services app. For a case diary with client reminders, a tracker such as CaseBench. For research, Indian Kanoon (free) or Manupatra and SCC Online (paid). LawCentral combines case tracking, research and drafting from ₹1,000 a month, GST included.
Is there free legal software for Indian lawyers?
Yes. The eCourts Services app and Indian Kanoon search are free. LawCentral has free tools — a case-status checker, an IPC to BNS converter and court formats — and a 5-day trial of the full product without a card.
How much does legal software cost in India?
On the vendors’ own pages on 16 October 2026: LawCentral from ₹1,000 a month (GST included), Claw ₹13,000 per advocate a year plus GST, Manupatra from ₹14,250 a year plus GST. SCC Online, CaseBench and MyKase did not publish a price on the pages we checked.
Can ChatGPT replace legal software?
It can help with a first draft, but it does not keep your case list, does not know your file, and you must check every citation it gives you. Tools built for Indian practice track the court record and check citations against an Indian database.
